That's a lot less than Bertolli EVOO sells for here.

Any way of telling how old it is, Larry? Olive oil IME doesn't have a particularly long shelf life.

Sounds pretty good. What does the "riserva" designation mean? I do not think I have seen that on an extra virgin olive oil before.

It's Bertolli's premium oil.

As long as it's previous home was a cardboard box somewhere, it's probably only recently surplussed and quite fine. I keep EVOO's in the wine cellar very successfully.

FWIW, it's in green glass with a date of 5/31/09. I just bought one for a friend.

Yeah, I know those green glass bottles and I hate them as it makes it impossible to assess the color of the olive oil before pouring some out. To me, yellow olive oil is just plain wrong. If God had wanted olive oil yellow, she would have made olives yellow :P Good to know that they put an expiration date on it, though.

Green oil doesn't necessarily mean better than yellow oil, though. Besides, for six bucks, I'll take a chance.

I've heard that said, but I have to say that from personal experience, the greener the oil the more I'm going to like it. Maybe the first pressings are greener, or the greener green olives are the ones I like the best. Dunno!

Our locally grown and processed evoo's have both yellow (mild and fruity) and green, (grassy with a pepper finish) and they are all very special.

Kind of funny that Bertolli has gotten into premium oil - given that they made their name on the plonk of oil.
We used to sell a ton of it, all day long,
$9.89 for a 3 liter can, and it wasn't worth that. The oil had absolutely no taste whatsoever, let alone of olives. I guess as consumers got more educated, they either had to upgrade their product, or die.
For $6 a liter, it's hard to go wrong, as long as the oil is sound.

Here's what it looks like. It's in a dark brown bottle, not green like I said before. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=388601 I discovered that Unilever recently sold it to Grupo, a Spanish firm.

Let us know how it tastes. Oops, I held the bottle up to daylight and it's probably green, not brown. But whatever, it's dark glass.

Our fave is the Val De Mazara Sicilian Olive Oil (decided this is without a doubt our favorite region for EVOO) from Costco. Can't remember the price...maybe $11.99 per liter? I'll check next time I'm there.

Right now I am using a 2-liter bottle of Ottavio (Spain) which I got at Costco. Price was probably $11-12. I also have a bottle of Kirkland brand in my pantry downstairs.
