What a thermometer deal!

by Larry Greenly » Thu Jan 15, 2009 10:57 am

I found a Williams-Sonoma digital meat thermometer with remote probe at a Goodwill store for only $4.50. It appears to be new, complete in box with instruction sheet. The user can program a number of meats for temperature and doneness range, count time up or down, etc. What a deal. The W-S site shows a somewhat similar unit for $50.

Great find, Larry!!!
I use mine all the time, but hardly ever with the remote piece. The part attached to the probe sitting on the counter next to the oven works just fine. I guess I would use it if I put something out on the grill though.

Hmmm. If you don't use the remote probe, how do you know what temperature the meat is?

There is a temp indicator directly connected to the probe, as well as a remote indicator.

Woohoo Larry, that's like getting a birthday present...

Not on mine; it's just a metal probe with a wire.

What does the probe plug into (besides the meat)? My probe plugs into a little gadget that reads the temperature of the meat. This is mine: http://www.amazon.com/RediCheck-Remote-Cooking-Thermometer-Settings/dp/B0000AQL24
I don't bother with the silver part--just the probe and black box.

Simplicity itself.
