New Addition to the Family

by Patti L » Fri Jan 09, 2009 3:35 pm

Every year with my bonus I buy myself a gift. In the past it's been a camera, a computer, some nice jewelry, etc. This year I bought a KitchenAid stand mixer! I've always wanted one, but I always seemed to have other priorities.

I'm so excited to use it, and the first thing I'm going to make is Cynthia's Cranberry Almond Scones! I can't wait!

Congratulations, Patti!

Enjoy your new baby. I'm making those scones myself this afternoon after I get a piece submitted for an exhibition. Yum!

Patti, you will love your mixer! And, you will love Cynthia's scones. I've been trying to find time to make them again--that is an incredible recipe. Hubby loved them on Christmas morning. (I substituted dried blueberries as I had a bag in my pantry I wanted to use up.)

Goodness, I can't believe I forgot to ask! What colour did you get, Patti? Are you going to take a photo to show us? ;)

Congratulations, Patti.
I made myself a gift of one 2 Christmases ago. I know the thrill. Just wait until the first time you use it -- I can hear you squealing already!!

You will very shortly be wondering how you ever did without one. But yeah, what Celia asked, what color?

Ever since one joined the household, I've loved it and cherished it. Pizza has suddenly gotten a WHOLE lot easier and more convenient. Not to mention all the wonderful baked goods waiting for me when I get home from work.

I don't wear sweaters and Cynthia doesn't wear pearls.

I got the Cayenne Red. I'll post a picture of it AND the scones!

Stuart, I was thinking about pizza. My nephew and his friend are visiting next weekend and I thought I would make some pizza dough and get a variety of toppings. I've never tried to make homemade dough. The possibilities are endless...

No, no, white is good, it doesn't clash with anything you put in it. Kind of like white dinner plates..

Okay. Wow! Those scones are delicious! Do you think they'd be good with dried apricots and almonds? Or some other nut?

I'd take you up on your offer Jenise, but two cats are definitely my limit. I almost got a white one, but changed my mind at the last minute. I must say, that thing is big. I'll have to leave it out because I don't have the cupboard space. And I'm kind of a messy baker, so the flour that goes everywhere shows up better on the red.

Mine is the Cayenne Red too, Patti. I love it.

Glad you liked the scones. Yes, I do them with all sorts of variations. Go for it!

Cynthia, I love your quote, but I'm not familiar with Robert Genn. I googled him but didn't get much info.

Patti,

Nice gift and Cayenne Red was a great choice!

There must be something very special about a KitchenAid. Several years ago I purchased one as a birthday present for the woman I was dating at the time. She was absolutely ecstatic when she tore the gift wrap off and could see her new mixer.

A few months later we broke up and it was not pleasant. But every December she sends me a box of Christmas cookies that she makes with the KitchenAid along with a note thanking me for the gift.

I figure she either really loves it after all these years and really appreciates the gift or she is slowly trying to poison me. :)
