Truvia

Has anyone tried Truvia, the latest artificial sweetener? It's made from the stevia plant, which up to now hasn't been allowed for use in foods by the FDA (although you can buy it in the vitamin aisle).

I tasted stevia some years ago and I thought it had a horrible taste, so I presume Cargill has separated the bad-tasting fractions to make something more palatable.

I first tasted stevia at the Ojai Spa several years ago. I was truly impressed. They used it in everything, and there was no dectable aftertaste to my palate. I immediately went to our local health food store and purchased some (powdered green stuff) that had no resemblence to the what I had. Last year I bought a product called Sweete, a stevia product. I use it in my tea occasionally. There is no bitter aftertaste. But, depending on the tea, there is a off-taste sometimes imparted. It's okay, but it's not quite there yet, for me. Perhaps Truvia is a better quality product. I plan to give it a try. If you do so soon, I'll be interested in your thoughts. Thx.

Our grocery store recently started carrying a Stevia sweetener called "SweetLeaf". I bought some...but whoa was it pricey. Anyway, it's pretty good. Probably equivalent in taste to Equal IMO, but I like that it's natural. If I recall correctly, Cynthia uses Stevia.

I carry Stevia in my purse - I like it. Have been waiting for it to be introduced into other areas.

I heard a review of Daniel Craig's performance in the new movie "Defiance" and said,

WHERE have I heard his name before???

Ah. Here.

A packet came in the morning paper yesterday. Still tastes like Stevia to me, though the product itself looks exactly like a packet of sugar. As I understand it, the "innovation" consists solely of getting the substance approved as a sweetener instead of a dietary supplement.
