Penzey's Spice stores?

by Greg H » Sat Dec 27, 2008 5:33 pm

Is there anything at a Penzey's brick and mortar store that would make it worth a detour?

You could weigh the cost of the detour versus that of S&H.

Straight from their website:

See and smell more than 250 spices, seasonings, and herbs.

Sounds like a good enough reason to me! :D

I've enjoyed their stores the couple of times I've been in them, but I generally prefer B&M stores to online shopping.

I'd do the detour.

Greg, as I found out on my one trip to one last year after being a mail order customer for many years, yes there is. Smell the difference between Cassia and Vietnamese cinnamon, just for instance--you won't be able to resist the Vietnamese, if you're not already a buyer. Other things will be eye opening too.

Agree with Jenise. We have a Penzey's B&M store here in MA which I haven't been to yet, though I've been ordering online for many years (I have two whole shelves and part of another in the cupboard stuffed with Penzey's products). We visited friends a few years ago near Indianapolis and visited the Penzey's shop there. Amazing how the aroma of the spices come across!!
