My favorite restaurant in Morristown, NJ is closing!

by Maria Samms » Wed Dec 10, 2008 7:19 pm

OH, I am so sad...my favorite restaurant, Pierre's Bistro and Wine Bar, is closing next month. I can't believe it! I am betting the economy has something to do with it. They also had wine classes that I hoped to go to someday when my life didn't revolved around little ones. Oh well!

Sorry Covert!! No more Pierre's...can you believe it?! :(

Sorry, don't you hate it when that happens! We've seen a number of "favorites" closed over the years.

This is just the beginning--we'll all sadly see a lot of this in the next few months.

You are so right, Jenise. Our only little Thai restaurant closed. I was flabbergasted when I heard they were paying $16K per month for rent. Seems the developer or landlord should be reassessing lease prices right now or all we'll have are empty storefronts.

Incidentally, we just found out a Mexican restaurant is opening in its place. No offense to Mexican food--we love it--but that is one thing we're certainly not lacking around here! They are practically on top of each other. I fully expect it to go out of business too, especially if they will be paying the same rent.

I'm wondering how things are actually going to settle out here in the next few years. Our city is one of the fastest growing in CA. You wouldn't believe all the development STILL going on even with this economic "downturn." I think we'll be seeing one heck of a lot of "available" signs around town.

Our favorite restaurant in Rochester, NH closed six months ago suddenly. The real bad news is that it was only good restaurant in the city! We eat mostly at home now.

I think we'll be seeing a lot of restaurants closing here as well. Things will be tough for the next couple of years.

As long as Jamie's stays open, though, I'll somehow make it.

Locally we have recently lost some fine family run restaurants. It is a combination of a number of factors.

One was an old German restaurant that served excellent food but refused to tweak their menu to change with the times. People in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s are generally not looking for a big, heavy traditional German meal. Maybe once in a while but not regularly.

The high-end chain restaurants at the shopping malls are also killing the small family owned restaurants that may be just a little bit off the beaten path. Especially the chain steak houses. The last thing we need is another chain steak house but they keep opening and, apparently, thriving while driving the Mom and Pop places out of business.

Another upscale family owned restaurant closed because of the lack of qualified staff. Our market is super saturated with restaurants and there just are not enough good servers, wine stewards and cooks to go around. Yeah, there will always be an abundant supply of college kids to wait tables at TGI Friday’s, but there is definitely a shortage of professional servers. Not to mention good cooks.

These are sad times for independent restaurants.

I hate to admit that the least-endangered restaurant in my town might be the Olive Garden.

LOL! Have faith. The last remaining Chi Chi's here closed. I cheered when they demolished the building.

My wife is running her small restaurant by herself during the week (cook, waitress, pearl diver and complaint dept.). It seats forty and it's hard to tell what her day will bring it is so up and down.
