Ever had Oyster Crabs??

Had dinner over at Goatboy's last evening and Guttergirl arrived with a bag of fresh oysters. Upon shucking, we were surprised to find that most of the bivalves contained small, almost transparent crabs. Erring on the side of caution we decided to feed themto the sink. This morning, upon Googling, I found these are quite harmless and considered a delicacy in some quarters.

Anyone here ever encountered these lil devils as I'm feeling kinda stupid about passing up the opportunty to feast upon some oysters?

Never heard of them! Would have been as nervous as you were about eating them, though.

My mom loved them, she would crunch them up and eat them. I think she convinced me to do that once or twice.

You see them more in locally caught oysters, I have never seen them in an oyster from Wegmans or a NJ fish shop. Down in coastal Virginia the supply chain from oysterman to consumer was very short.

Nope, I usually just swallow them, don't have intimate relations with them.

A couple of times. Tried one and found it crunchy and tasteless other than a vague brininess. They're kind of alarming looking though.
