Trouble finding grocery item

by Carrie L. » Mon Nov 24, 2008 11:01 pm

Has anyone else had trouble finding Pepperidge Farms stuffing? It comes in a bag and it's really just seasoned dried bread pieces. I always get it to add along with the white bread I make my stuffing with, but now I've been to two different grocery stores and neither of them have it.

Carrie, we're not cooking for Thanksgiving this year - midday feast at church (I'm bringing the wine), evening meal with friends. But I would guess you're just seeing a temporary shortage due to demand. The Pepperide Farm website doesn't suggest any problem with this product this year ...

Worst case, can you cut up some Pepperidge Farm white bread and sprinkle it with poultry seasoning? Or ask the forumites for some great recipes?

They had stacks of the stuff at my regular grocery store. Of course it was in this odd, out of the way spot that was hard to locate. Maybe the display is in the hinterlands of your grocery store.

Hmm. Thanks Robin and David. I will try looking again before I try making it myself. There are a few more grocery chains here that I haven't tried. Ralph's and Stater Bros are carrying this Mrs. Cubbison's brand, but what I like about PF is that it doesn't have a strong sage flavor. In fact, I'd be surprised if there was any sage in it. Not a fan of the stuff.

In our experience Pepperidge Farm has very little customer loyalty. We find a product we like, and a month later it is gone. Sometimes it resurfaces in another store, so maybe it is the store's fault. At any rate it is enough to make you want to make your own stuff! Which we usually do.

Wow, I would never say that.

The Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix has been in the grocery store(s) near my home for my entire life. It's always there.

Same here. I never use it (nothing negative, only I prefer to do that kind of thing from scratch), but it strikes me as the iconic brand.

This year I bought a French Sour Boule from the Farmer's Market. I made my dressing today and I think it came out great. I used to stuff the turkey with it, but it became one less chore at the last minute when I decided to cook it in the crock pot and use the juice from the turkey to drizzle over the dressing during the last 20 minutes that we let the turkey rest.
I saw Pepperridge Farms bread cubes on an end cap at the rear of the store this week.

Bingo! Found it at the first store I visited. Who'd a thunk it. It wasn't on the stuffing aisle, along with the Stove Top and Mrs. C's. It was on this little dinky "Thanksgiving" display near the wine, greeting cards, toiletries. along with the cranberry sauce and mini marshmallows, way at the bottom near the floor. I didn't even go near that part of the store. Seems like a dis-service to the brand if you ask me.
