Best way to freeze sausage rolls

by Maria Samms » Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:07 am

I have a bunch of sausage rolls leftover from a cocktail party. They are not cooked (the sausage is, but not the puffed pastry). I wanted to freeze them. What is the best way...should I cook them off first or should I freeze them uncooked?

I'm not quite sure I know what these sausage rolls are, Maria, but puff pastry freezes just fine in its uncooked state, if that's any help. Since the sausage is already cooked, I don't think that bacterial spoilage is a huge concern, and I'd worry that any attempt to reheat the cooked pastry would ruin its texture.

Maria,

If you are talking about what I know as Pigs in a Blanket you would not want to cook the pastry prior to freezing. I do not think it matters so much that the sausage has already been cooked.

Thanks guys.

To clarify, sausage rolls are just sausage cooked in puff pastry. I think it might be an British term...my husband calls them sausage rolls when I make them.

To make them, I just saute some sausage, wrap in puff pastry (I usually make a triangle shape), coat with butter and cook for about 20 until pastry puffs up and is golden brown.
