Is "froth" the same as "foam"?

At any rate, I thought they were passe'. Apparently not. This is the menu for an upcoming wine dinner at our favorite local restaurant. It's a little heavy on the froth IMO.

LOL! That's just silly. Froth must be the new foam. What next? Suds? Lather?

It was a kick reading the "Anise vapored cod" ....they pass the Anise bottle over the cod?
Also, the "Cassis tumbled beef"....flip the steak over in a dish of cassis?
I always like to ask the wait staff to explain those types of descriptions to me, some get such a strange look on their face.

This is a chef that needs to be slapped into reality. I may have seen a more pretentious and over-wrought menu but I can't remember when.

Agreed. The regular menu is the same way. I have to say though, his food is amazing.

Dave, Karen, Maria: I know, completely absurd. I'd like to go just to see the looks on the faces of the patrons when they notice how many times the menu mentions a froth of some sort.

I sometimes do menus for the wine dinners I create at home.

I did one that included "Gin tenderized veal". As we were sitting around at the end of the dinner, one of the guests finally asked me what that meant - had I marinated the veal in gin. I explained that it meant that the bottle I'd beat the veal with to flatten it happened to be the litre and a half bottle of Tanqueray I always keep in the freezer....

He may be able to cook. But somebody needs to take the pen away from him. The menu is like a comedy of errors.

Carrie, I trust your taste on the food. But yeah, what everybody else said about the drama queen descriptions. The "yeasty buckwheat blini frame" has me imagining this tragic little scallop suspended on something not unlike a dental dam!

Update:
Late yesterday afternoon Len says to me, "Oh by the way, there is a wine dinner tomorrow night at ___________. The so and sos, and the so and sos are going and would like us to join them."
I laughed and then had to show him the froth-laden menu. Not my thing, but CERTAINLY not his thing.

Can you go and just drink? I absolutely LOVE Ramey Chards.

Just trying to find something positive.....
