Secrets of a Restaurant Chef - What are your thoughts?

by Dave R » Mon Nov 10, 2008 1:09 pm

I have now seen a few episodes of Anne Burrell’s show Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. I really, really wanted to like it but simply cannot watch another episode. What she does for the most part is technically correct and she seems to know what she is talking about. Her food looks great and she is not trying to reinvent the culinary wheel but that growling and talking in a tone of voice like a male all-star wrestler just grates on my nerves to the point where the show is unwatchable.

Have any of you seen her shows? What are your thoughts?

I've seen parts of a couple episodes. It doesn't resonate with me, but I haven't figured out why yet. I'm thinking it's because there seems to be too much personality there, and the food is secondary. It's kind of the same feeling I have about RR and Paula. I don't care for Ask Aida either; and the Neelys are like fingernails on chalk boards! Who are these people?

I've only watched Ask Aida once. Her nerdly little side-kick is far too annoying for me to be able to sit through another show.

The Neelys would actually be ok if Mr. Neely were not so whipped.

You have my interest piqued about Secrets. I'll have to check it out.
I'm actually a fan of the Neelys, but do wonder sometimes, is he really that nice? She is a doll and funny too.
I can't stand Aida's delivery. She sounds like such a snob to me.
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

I rather like Anne Burrell, and make it a point to watch her show. I think her food looks good and I've learned quite a bit, and while I can see where her mannerisms could be irritating, I find her enthusiasm kind of fun to watch.

There are a few I don't like to watch, but overall I usually learn something or get a new recipe or idea.

I can't watch any of this tripe. Is it on the All Clowns and Buffoons Food Network?
