Cooking anything special for Election Night?

by TraciM » Tue Nov 04, 2008 8:45 pm

You east coasters are probably mid-dinner, but is anyone else cooking (or did cook) anything fun for dinner?

I just started a pot of chili. Seems kind of American to me. Pulled the cork on a '05 Rochioli Chard only to find it corked. Damn. Just threw an '06 Lynmar RRV Chard in the freezer for a quick chill. Not sure what will accompany the chili. Maybe an Outpost Zin (company palate) or a Carlisle Zin. Decisions, decisions....

I'm searching through the pantry trying to decide. I'm thinkin' Szechuan with some Chimay.

I still haven't found cooking buddies yet. You're badly missed.

Aw, shucks...You're missed too....I was just walking through Safeway and noticed Swanson's broth on sale. I thought, "I should sent Stuart and Jim a PFA". But then thought again. Tony's planning another "Rhone and Grilled Cheese Night". It won't be the same without you.

Or without Suzy's tomatoes!

Albertson's had the Swanson on sale for 50 cents. It's my secret shame and actually works great for a lot of dishes.

Brats and yellow eye beans. Now I can make my own gas.

Marinated (lemon juice, soy sauce, garlic, butter) Cornish Game Hen halves, broiled on each side and then roasted until nice and golden brown. Yukon Gold potatoes, Sage and Gruyère cheese Gratin, Swiss Chard (from our garden) sprinkled with roasted garlic cloves. I picked baby lettuce and had a small side with a simple vinaigrette.

I went to a party of Obama supporters and campaign workers, and had been on the phones all day working to pry ballots out of the hands of the last procrastinators which robbed me of the time needed to shop for groceries. Ended up making a finger salad of thick cucumber slices marinated in olive oil, white vinegar, garlic, dill and black caraway seed.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

You made the move away from the Bay Area?! Wow.

I guess some things take priority over your tomato access

I had some horrendous vegetarian burgers at a big Election Watch Party but when I arrived at a smaller wine-focused party there were only a few tasty crackers and tapenade pickins left, before moving to some delightful Whole Paycheck biscotti.

It wasn't a night for good nutrition. But I survived!!

I made Bisquick biscuits and had sliced tomatoes and sunny side up eggs with a big glass of milk. I needed the milk to settle my stomach.

While everyone else was cheering Obama, I saw my property taxes go up thanks to sneaky, really aren't taxes but have the same effect assessments on my property taxes for stuff the city and county should have been able to pay for with the money they had. I love living in the East Bay, but these ballot measures and the fact that most people don't read them kill me.

Geesh ...
And now what?

Well, I suppose you could give thanks that you don't live in San Francisco and had all those crazy propositions to vote on, like measure Z????? Have you heard about that one? They want to change the name of an existing waste water treatment plant to Bush Sewage Plant. Some are so crazy and a total waste of our money just to get them on the ballot.

Talk about not reading them...Yesterday, a neighboring community was suckered into voting for a 1000 basis points (!) increase in their sales tax as the result of an insanely misleading tax referendum on their ballots. I have no doubt where they will be going to spend their money and it will not be in the area with the massive sales tax hike.
