...time to get over it. The masses can now buy this stuff by the five pound bag at Costco--just heat and serve!

Is this supposed to be the signature dish from Nobu?

If so I certainly liked it there. Hard to imagine that Costco would get it just right though...

This is frozen?

Possibly, though my experience is that it is generally credited to Roy (Yamaguchi?) of the Roy's chain in Hawaii where they call it miso-glazed butter fish. And yes, it's a frozen product.

I like it too. But I have to say that before I ever ate in a Roy's restaurant or heard anything about this dish, I owned miso and after reading one of my Japanese cookbooks decided to spread it on a piece of fish before pan-frying, which I found to be marvelous. The Hawaiian effect seems to be adding the compensatory sweetener and marinating it longer before cooking.

Don't hold your breath. :) But aren't you impressed? This is quite the honor--miso marinated black cod is the new fish stick! Blackened halibut didn't get this far.

In these parts tortilla encrusted tilapia is the new fish stick. You cannot escape it. I believe it is a frozen Sysco product. And when's the last time they made anything good?

Miso-glazed black cod is one of my all-time favorite fish dishes, but I too have some skepticism as to how close the Costco product will come to my memory. Still, it never hurts to investigate, does it?

When thawed I am expecting it to look just like this (from Nobu)
