Favorite Halloween Candy?

by Howie Hart » Fri Oct 31, 2008 8:28 pm

I used to like to get almost anything with chocolate: Nestles Crunch, Heath, Snickers, Mounds, Clark Bar. Then there were the cheapies who would pass out tiny packs of Smarties.

We hand out the same choices every year, "silver standard": Snickers, Pay Day, Reese's Cups and Baby Ruth. My Swiss neighbor reminds me that the gold standard is Swiss chocolate, but even our local See's Candy is better than our dole too.

None, not a candy eater myself. But as a kid, as someone who wasn't a fan of chocolate, I could trade a single Hershey bar for a zillion of those little Smarties which I did love.

I bought full size Butterfingers and Baby Ruths to pass out tonight.

I think I have a whole mouth full of "sweet tooths." Usually we don't get any trick or treaters but load up with candy "just in case." My favorites are Reeses cups, Twix Bars and Nesle Crunch. Also a big fan of Sugar Daddies and Tootsie Pops which is what I bought this year. And although I have never bought them, I have a hard time resisting candy corn.
As a kid, my least favorite (and most popular, it seemed) were MaryJanes. Ugh, I can still taste them--and they had a weird gritty texture.

Fun question, Howie.
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

I always liked Candy Corn as a kid. It's pretty vile I know. But still fun!

Reeses were also fun, but they are much broader than just Halloween!

Smarties are probably my favorite. After that, I'd go with plain Hershey bars, Snickers, Mounds, and Heath bars.

Not that I won't eat the others, of course. Just finished a "fun-size" Nestle Crunch.

I hope you all ate your Candy Corn the proper way when you were kids... color section by color section. Just like M&Ms, the different colors don't taste different, but it's important to pay attention to aesthetic considerations while consuming both of those confections.

That is absolutly the approved method for eating Candy Corn. Likewise, there is only one way to eat Oreos....Creme filling first.

Well, you have to make fake teeth out of them first, THEN bite them color by color.

My favorite Halloween prank was to go to the grocery and buy several apples and a pack of razor blades. The looks on the cashiers' faces were priceless.

That is a good one. We sprayed the neighborhood girl's heads with Nair. Their fathers weren't amused.

Carrie, I remember Mary Janes, but I liked them better than you did. In fact, I wish I had one right now. A similar, but even better candy was Bit O'Honey.

I love the fun size candy bars, Heath, Snickers, and the little packets of Peanut M & M's.
