A meteor

landed near my house today and this strange fractal emerged from it. I am going to cook it tonight.

How timely that you bring this up. A local on line newspaper in our town just had an article on Chou Romanesco and folks wondered where to buy it. I asked our local Raley's produce guy to bring it in, and as luck would have it, he had it on order and it will be in the store tomorrow. I have cooked with it before, a simple recipe using lemon, and olive oil over seamed Chou.
Will you share the recipe you create for your meteor?

I did it very simply (what I do with most vegetables).

Just whacked a bunch of the fractals off the stems, cut some "xes" in the bases, rinsed them, steamed them, drained them and then finished them in a saute pan with butter and salt and pepper.

Along with it steamed BB-size red rose potatoes and I cut some pork cutlets from a whole pork loin from a local farmer and quickly sauteed them.

Checked out a bottle of Ridge Monte Bello, 1993 - I think it's ready. :)

Aren't those gorgeous? I'd never seen romanesco's until I moved north, but they're popular here and regularly available at our farmer's markets.

Benoit Mandelbrot would be impressed. The dish adds a fraction of a dimension to any meal.

A great man. While I understand virtually none of his mathematics, I do understand fractals. Hell, my life is a fractal and my writing follows a Mandelbrot set.
