RCP: Most Dangerous Chocolate Cake recipe ever

by Sue Courtney » Tue Oct 21, 2008 2:12 pm

Received this by email - so forgive me if it has been mentioned before, although I cannot find it on a search. I've not tested it either, but sounds like fun.

DANGEROUS CHOCOLATE CAKE-IN-A-MUG

1 coffee mug
4 Tbsp. cake flour (plain, not self-rising)
4 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. cocoa
1 egg
3 Tbsp. milk
3 Tbsp. oil
Small splash of vanilla
3 Tbsp. chocolate chips, optional
Add dry ingredients to mug, mix well with a fork.
Add egg, mix thoroughly.
Pour in milk and oil and vanilla, mix well.
Add chips, if using.
Put mug in microwave, and cook for three minutes on 1000 watts.
Cake will rise over top of mug--do not be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little; tip onto a plate if desired.
Eat!
(This can serve two if you want to feel slightly more virtuous.)

***And WHY is this the most dangerous cake chocolate cake recipe ever?
Because now we are all only five minutes away from chocolate cake any time of the day or night!!!***

Thank you Sue. No, I mean damn you, Sue! Kidding. This truly is dangerous to know. We are two chocoholics. I've been known to make s'mores in the microwave out of sheer desperation.
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

This was discussed on my food/wine e-mail discussion list. People tried it and said it was only ok. And they suggested reducing the oil to 2 tbsp.

One woman, who is a newly minted RD, calculated the calories at 1037!

Problem is, those who tried it said it was soooooo easy to do that it might become a habit. :D

Looks like a great recipe for a kid's birthday party. Let them all mix up their cakes and 'wave 'em. Have a bunch of different-colored icings ready so the kids can decorate the cakes, the furniture, each other, and the household pets. Big fun for everyone (although the kids will require extra soccer practice to make up for the calories).

Someone just posted to the list that that is exactly what they did, Mike. It was only 5 kids.

They made chocolate sauce instead of icing. And warned not to put a candle in the birthday kid's cake until it's cool, because it melted in! :D
