Is it possible to browse all recipe posts?

by Fred Sipe » Sat Oct 04, 2008 5:20 pm

I've looked on many pages for a way to view all recipes posted by forum members but have not figured out a way to do so.

I know I can search for "RCP: whatever," and I've tried just "RCP:" but both return all matching related responses to the original post which contains the recipe.

I just thought that with all the great cooks here it would be interesting to browse all of the recipes that have been posted.

Just wondering...

Fred, I too have pondered this, and without much success either. It sure make things easier sometimes.

I have discovered that a search for "RCP:," though it does return all matching responses, shows the originating post's topic title with a direct link to it in the left sidebar.

This returns you to the original recipe. So a search of "RCP: whatever" becomes much more useful if you scroll the sidebar to choose the individual topics.

If you go to "advanced search," there's an option for "search within first post only" I believe

The way Fred might want to do it is to have it search on both messages and subject titles but display only the topic titles. That will get him the list format he's looking for of all RCP posts, but it will also include threads where recipes are contained in the responses. (In aid of just this kind of need, when I see recipes posted as responses I usually use my mod powers to imbed an 'RCP' in there somewhere.) In those cases, the topic title may not be an accurate descriptor of the recipe(s), but it's usually a good clue about what's inside.

Ah yes, the Mod Squad.

Doing as Dale suggested works, but it doesn't give alphabetic order, which would be really nice. You also need exact parameters to search, so searching on 'meat' isn't going to get you 'lamb' or 'beef'. That would take a more powerful search engine than we have.
