Do you like your Brownies Fudgie or Cakey?

by Maria Samms » Fri Oct 03, 2008 11:44 am

Just wondering what the general consensus is about brownies...I like mine fudgie, undercooked really, but my husband likes his cakier. What's your preference? (To clarify, I am talking about chocolate brownies...not the blondies).

I voted "fudgie," but really the way I like them is the way Cynthia makes them- searingly spicy. TOS's soon-to-be wife refers to them as "The Brownies of Death."

Fudgie for me, but I will admit to a certain pleasure in the recipe of Alice B. Toklas.

cakey, but moist, with a good frosting, and macadamia nuts. In fact, when I worked for the City of Redding Police Dept. I'd make a batch every Sunday and took them into the briefing room on Monday morning. They would be gone before we all sat down to be briefed. It was so funny because they'd all act like they had no clue the brownies were there. Later, several of the guys/gals would stop by my office to say "thanks". They loved their sweets.
I bought a packaged mix from either Betty Crocker or Duncan Hines. It had a small can of Hershey's chocolate in the package. I'd add chocolate chips and macadamia nuts. A home made chocolate frosting was the final addition. Best brownies I ever had. Have not made them since I retired.

Not just fudgie. I like them dense...almost fallen? Chewy and crunchy on the edges. We call it "Brownie Jerky". No one but my brother and I make them like that. So he and I usually search out the corners of more mundane brownies.

Absolutely fudgy (really fine just eating the batter out of the bowl!)

ABSOLUTELY no nuts

Voted fudgie, assuming this is the chewy consistency that I like.

I said fudgie, but I'm more with Richard.

I'm not a brownie baker though, otherwise I'd have one of these.

Cakey as long as they're moist (a lot of cakey brownies aren't, not sure why.)

Don't consider brownies a big enough deal to have a preference. I like well prepared food and will take it as the chef/cook intended it to be.
