NEWS: Pet Food Recall

NEW YORK, September 13, 2008 - The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today advised pet owners to discontinue using certain dog and cat foods manufactured by Mars Petcare US, which has voluntarily issued a nationwide recall because of potential contamination with Salmonella serotype Schwarzengrund.

This voluntary recall only affects several brands of dry pet foods in the United States including Pedigree, Special Kitty, Paws & Claws, Natural Dog Food, Red Flannel, Country Acres, Buju & Ziggie, Member's Mark, Natural Cat Food, Retriever, Bruiser, Doggy Bag, PMI Nutrition, and Pet Pride. Here we go again. The last time our local megamart pulled all canned cat food rather than just the affected brands.

We'll see what happens this time.

This is one reason why I make my dog's food...the kitty is another story. She is elderly and set in her ways, but her food has not been on any pet recall list. China did it to us once and now they are going after their own babies. Both are so tragic. I wonder what they will find with this latest recall. What I don't understand is how they could do it twice!
