Stinky tofu

by Shel T » Sat Sep 13, 2008 1:45 pm

I was intrigued with the "Bizarre Foods" show where this Tai Wan 'delicacy' was featured and the host who had no problems with live bugs, maggots etc., gagged on this and couldn't get past his gag reflex.
LOL, no not personally interested in trying it, but wonder if anybody here has and if so, what were your impressions.
Here's what wikipedia has to say about it.

There are many, many reasons to avoid tofu. Not the least of which being if it is American tofu chances are excellent it was made from genetically modified soybeans.

All soybeans are genetically modified. So is just about all produce, with the exception of wild mushrooms. I suspect you mean "genetically modified using technology created since I took high school biology."

In any case, I've tried the stinky stuff, and like natto, I have no desire to try it again. It was in Hong Kong, street vendor, deep fried. My Chinese hosts laughed their asses off at the face I made.

I would liken its smell to that of a bloated corpse freshly pulled out of the water.
