Meat Cook Book

by Larry Greenly » Wed Sep 10, 2008 9:58 am

For yucks, I picked up a free copy of a 1965 Better Homes & Gardens "Meat Cook Book" to peruse the pictures and recipes. The pictures are curiously unappetizing. I guess food photography wasn't too developed yet. Most of the photos show unappealing gray dishes and almost all the meat shows bright highlights from floodlamps and probably brushed-on corn syrup or something. Yuck.

The whole thing reminds of a surreal, yet amusing, movie, "Parents (1989)," with Randy Quaid: The son of a 50s suburban family begins to wonder where his family gets its meat.

Yeah. I didn't have time this morning to scan the cover. What do you think of it?
