I love fresh blueberries!

My local farm started pick your own blueberries last week. Between that and the raspberries I am well fruited.

It takes about 15 minutes to pick 6 pounds of blueberries (essentially a decent "flat"). That's even considering all the ones I end up eating.

The bonus is supporting the local farm - run by some of the nicest folks you would want to meet.

I was at a Farmers Market yesterday where all the berries were awesome... except the blueberries. We bought way too many of all the rest, but none of the blues. (They ended up as a mixed berry compote served over grilled peaches with a balsamic reduction. Yum! Note: Add just the tiniest, barest hint of cinnamon to the balsamic. Nobody can tell *what's* there, but they know *something* is different.)

I love 'em too. Len brought a huge container home from Fresh Market, and I turned about half of them into a double batch of Blueberry Banana Bread. I have to say it was amazing. Love the sweet/tart combination.
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

We just called our local farmer today. They start packing/selling during the week of the 20th. (Jenise...Andersons blueberries Bow Hill Road [off Interstate 5 west a few miles down hill and over the train tracks]). They have huge berries and we usually purchase 3 flats and freeze some for use in the winter when summer fruit is not available. Good for you too...
Thanks,
Mike

If it's a berry, I like it.

We're now full on to blueberry season as raspberries taper off in this region (damnit!). A Sat. trip to the local farmer's market showed almost every stall with blueberries aplenty. We'll probably do a U-pick later this week, too. Mulberries are also still at peak right now and our blackberries are just getting ripe. Ah, summertime...

I make a blueberry pie every year before they go out of season. I'll be doing that soon.

We're stocking up every time we go to the produce markets ... great breakfast. I like mine very simple, topped with a dollop of lowfat vanilla yogurt.

Mmmm. One of my faves. I also occasionally make a concord grape pie that looks and tastes much like blueberry pie.

I make a blueberry/cherry pie that is fantastic.

Larry, do you have a reliable local source for Concord grapes? I've only seen them once since I've lived out here.

That's good, too, but I'll keep the vanilla yogurt on my blueberries and save the ripe, juicy, aromatic local peaches for eating with nothing on them. AHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Why the lowfat? Is there sugar in there with the vanilla?

I'll take heavy or sour cream every time. Oregon been berry, berry good to me.

I like them in my morning cereal. But I did have some topped with a dollop of freshly whipped cream the other night - sort of a higher fat, bad boy spin on Robin's version
(dollop = 3 parts cream to 1 part berry  )

Generally speaking, I'm inclined to agree. But to my taste, a decent brand of lowfat yogurt (like Dannon) doesn't show the flavor deficit that comes with so many lowfat products, so why not save a calorie or two?

I wish I could send you all some wild northern Ontario blueberries!! They're just coming into season now. And a slice of blueberry pie made with my mother's recipe.
