First harvest from the garden

Picked the first tomatoes today, while I was out there I grabbed some basil and thyme. Made some semolina pasta and a basil pesto to go with it. Marinated some chicken breasts in soy, honey, and mango juice and grilled them. God I love this time of year! -RP

Picked the first tomatoes today

Lucky dawg! We've got a couple dozen big green tomatoes on the vines, but depending on weather, it's going to be another week or maybe two before they go red on us.

Jenise is right; I'm one of the Scovie Award judges for the FFF, which I've attended since the early 90s. If I would have known you were coming, I would have made plans to meet you.

I am so envious! It has been so cold here nothing is near the ripening stage. It will be another month before I have tomatoes and by then the green beans and eggplant will just be starting to flower. Shoot!

My wife and I have been traveling to a number of Big Green Eggfests around the country and several acquaintances in that community said that the FFF was worth attending, so that's what we did. Dave does a nice job putting it together. BTW, I got Dave's latest book on southwest cuisine, it's a good read. -RP

First of the Zucchini is approaching a decent size to pick & just harvested 6-7 strawbs this evening and 3 pods of peas for the pasta.

Tomatoes are flowering, but still a long way off. Broad beans are flowering. Cherries are getting there, but a second poor harvest in a row is disappointing.
