Steak and Ale?

I've never eaten at the Steak and Ale chain restaurant, but I've received a prime rib coupon deal.

I normally don't suffer any restaurants below three-star Michelin, but I'm curious about the above deal to see how the other half lives and eats. How is it?

It's ok, better than the Sizzlin' type. But there's a lot of better steaks in Tulsa, just as cheap, if not more so.

There was a Steak & Ale within walking distance of my corporate apartment in Richmond. I was working very long hours so sometimes it was my only option if I did not have time to get in the car and drive someplace. It is one of the very few restaurants where I have been compelled to put steak sauce on my steak. They also had a salad bar. Need I say more?

Also, I'm not sure if you are into wine but their "wine list" was dreadful.

Well, I finally ate at Steak and Ale several weeks ago, and I wasn't terribly impressed. The endless salad bar made me laugh. It had exactly the same ingredients as the local senior center cafeterias, where the salad costs $1.25.

It looks like I may never have a second chance to try them. Bennigan's and Steak and Ale have declared bankruptcy. Employees showed up yesterday and the doors were locked. Tsk, tsk.

Interesting, since some other similar chains (e.g., Hungry Hunter) have also gone to the corporate boneyard.

Yeah, I heard about it on CNBC. I will say that I shed a brief tear for the best onion rings I've ever had, anytime, anywhere: a Benningans staple that a group of lunching co-workers introduced me to once upon a time. (After "Hi Jenise" and "Hi Andy", my interview for that project went: "Let's get the formalities overwith: you found my office so you're intelligent, you can pronounce 'cost engineer' so you understand the requirements of the job, and you've got a great rack. But what we don't know is, do you lunch?" When I nodded emphatically, Andy pronounced me hired. Ah, the good old days. )

You've mentioned this before. I say it's time for pictures 8) .

When I got hired at Central Market I started part-time in the cooking school and picked up the rest of my shifts in the beer/wine dept. When I interviewed with the beer/wine manager it went like this: "So, Robert, do you like Cotes du Rhone?"

"Yes."

"Alright. You're in."

I think that, no matter the job, the interview question should be just that; "Do you like Cotes du Rhone?"
