OK, I guess I will be the first to ask. What kind of hot dogs are those? They appear to be very long. Did you make the Mac and Cheese from scratch? Canned green beans?
Hmmm.....maybe a picture you found on the web?

Guess I should have googled first....this picture is all over the place. Just did not seem like a "Jenise" dish at all! Bet it is tasty though, especially with spicy brown mustard for the dog!

Looks like Kraft mac & cheese from a box, that uses powdered cheese. I ate that a lot as a kid. :|

Yes, it was.....you gave me a "shock" post. Hey, but that is what I might do....coming off of Lake Shasta with three kids who are hungry, mom and dad are exhaused after driving the boat all day. I think I did do that!

Naawww…that’s not a real redneck seafood dinner. Those purty lil’ filleted weiners need to be covered with some sort of melted cheese. Velveeta would work…but bottled microwaved nacho cheese would be even better.

You were (still are!) a good mom. One of the few regrets I have about never having children is the opportunity to do silly things like cut hot dogs into squid shapes. Children should laugh every chance they get. In fact, so should adults, which is why my husband has never pulled a sandwich out of a brown paper bag from home that didn't already have a bite taken out of it.

Why don't you try Bob out on the squid-dogs lunch. I bet he'd laugh! Or outfit your passle of pussies in something like this: Image
BTW, adults should also laugh every chance they get - and those chances are further apart than kids have. Having recently sent in my tax return, for instance, I may not laugh again for weeks...... Image

I fully agree, Bill. And your last comment made me laugh, which gives you some idea of my (lack of) empathy.

Oh that's too funny Jenise!

Well...I don't need to make my kiddos' hotdogs look like cute Octopi to get them to eat them...now making salmon look like hot dogs, there's a novel concept!

Do your kids eat fish? Because I despised fresh fish when I was a kid, I don't imagine children taking to it easily, but I could be wrong.

I too despised fresh fish as a child and still bear the emotional scars of our vacations to Grandma's house when the daily breakfast was a bowl of Fruit Loops (in buttermilk) and a big side of cold, smoked trout. My Sister would eat the bowl of Fruit Loops and look at the fish and start crying so she would get out of eating any. I was a boy, so the crying tactic was not available to me and I had to suck it up and eat the cold, smoked trout. It left a greasy feel and fishy taste in your mouth all day long.

Jenise,

I make a maple/soy grilled salmon for family dinner every 2 weeks...my son loves it (he was only allowed to try fish a few months ago), my daughter (who is my good eater) is warming up to it...she will eat quite a bit as long as it's covered in maple syrup  . She loves shellfish though...my son can't have that.

I was the same way growing up (not liking fish)...my brothers and I spent our summers in Cape Cod, MA with our grandparents every yr for many yrs...we ate fresh shellfish every night. On the odd occasions we had fluke, flounder, or swordfish, I remember not liking it too much. Must be a kid thing. My husband grew up in England where their chicken fingers were fish fingers and he quite liked fish as a child (especially white fish like Plaice boiled in milk and butter), so I sometimes wonder if it's a geographical thing. Anyway, my daughter would much rather have a hot dog than a plate of any kind of fish. Hopefully, she will be like me and love it when she gets older. Either way, we have Salmon every 2 weeks..
