Quote: "in a corporatized, free-trade world where food – even fresh food – can come from low-cost countries halfway around the globe, it's hard to know which crops will pay."
The globalization of food is upon us: the penny-pinching attitude has become an idol of the new mentality / the new policy. People are getting farther and farther away from the truth of where food comes from. Not only are we losing local farms: we are losing part of our culture ... but that's not quantifiable, so policy makers don't care.
I bet we are not the only place going through this. Someone recently commented to me that maybe our government is trying to recoup some of the many dollars in aid given to these "low cost" countries over the years ... frankly I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
