Starbucks and other liqueurs

by Larry Greenly » Mon Dec 31, 2007 11:55 am

I'm not a real fan of Starbucks, but I made a hit buying my favorite wife a bottle of Starbucks Coffee Liqueur to replace her empty Kahlua. (All right, it was on sale.)

My favorite liqueur? Benedictine, although I like Grand Marnier and most of the others. (Okay, I like most.)

Your fave?

While I enjoy a nice after-dinner cognac on occasion, I probably drink Irish Cream (in coffee) more than any other liquor.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

A recco from a friend who is ITB. Look out for very old bottles of Benedictine (and indeed certain other liquers). The transformation isn't as big as wine, but age can have a softening effect that may interest you. Auctions are a great place to find such bottles and sometimes at very cheap prices.

I got a bottle of Benedictine at an estate sale. The sticker said $7.95!

The deceased was a Mormon grocery sales rep who received all kinds of wine and liquor for Xmas gifts. Not being a drinker, he just stashed everything away. Unfortunately, about 50 bottles of wine were not stored correctly and were ruined, but various liquors (some in commemorative bottles) and liqueurs did survive.

I helped clean out the house and received the whole lot for nothing.
