Christmas music opinion requested from peanut gallery

by Larry Greenly » Wed Nov 28, 2007 2:30 pm

I play the piano every Saturday night at a French restaurant--usually a mixture of show tunes, pops, jazz and classical. I'd like to toss in a few beautiful Christmas-related tunes. My question is, in your opinion, what date should I start? (I don't want to jump the gun.)

If you were eating dinner accompanied by music, would Sat., Dec. 1 be okay or should I start a week or two later?

I would prefer later, rather than earlier. The 8th seems about right.

I'm ready for it now. Something needs to inspire me for all the shopping.

As my wife told a reporter at the mall in response to a similar "man on the street" inquiry, "September is for my birthday, October is for Halloween, November is for Thanksgiving, and December is for Christmas."

December 1st ...

Sorry, that's Monday. I play Saturdays. You probably wouldn't like anything I play anyway.

I love Christmas music. I am listening to some right now. Start this weekend. It can't hurt.
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?

To clarify things for people, I wasn't thinking of Jingles Bells, Frosty the Snowman or Silent Night, or similar songs.

I was thinking of pieces like It's Christmas in New York, Gesu Bambino, Feliz Navidad, etc.

I'd love to play Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer (it's a lot of fun to play), but it would not be apropos.
