I love the "kitchen disasters" topic here in the kitchen forum and thought it only appropriate to counter with a "kitchen successes" topic. What about those near misses that COULD have landed you in AREA KMD (Kitchen of Mass Destruction) but the torpedo missed and all ended well if not spectacular?! Please no fish stories! (unless they're true, of course).

Every time I step into the kitchen, it's a disaster. But I'm pretty good at pulling myself out of the weeds ("Oh, yeah, I meant to do that!")

Saturday night was both success and disaster. The gougeres were a raving success - none of the guests had ever tried them before. The eggplant custard was in the middle - pretty good but not fantastic. The cinnamon creme brulee was totally screwed. It was more cinnamon curds and whey. I've made the stuff a lot and never had that happen.
Dessert was somewhat redeemed by the homemade pecan sandies, which were excellent.
