US: The Coca-Cola Co. teams up with Illy coffee
15 October 2007 | Source: just-drinks.com editorial team

The Coca-Cola_Co. and Illycaffè have signed a global joint venture focusing on the RTD (ready to drink) coffee category.

The companies said today (15 October), that they hope to take advantage of Coca-Cola's distribution network and Illy's brand reputation in an effort to reach the US$10bn international RTD coffee segment as partners.

Coke president and CEO Muhtar Kent said: "We will be able to bring our brand building and distribution expertise together with Illy's premium brand reputation. This partnership demonstrates our commitment to meeting evolving consumer demands while creating additional value for our system, our customers and our shareowners."

Illycaffè chairman Andrea Illy added: "Our R&D and product know-how will join The Coca-Cola Co.'s industrial and distribution infrastructure to develop a high quality RTD coffee."

I'm not sure. It appears to be an industry term of art, and I have a horrible feeling it might mean packaged in cans like Coke. I'll try to find out, and report back.

EDIT: Yes. It's prepared coffee beverages sold in cans. BLEAH!

Coffee is crap. What is Illy?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Would you please clarify this statement about Parkenson's for me? Is there some suggestions in the medical community that Parkinson's may be a result from drinking coffee?

Hardly any more ridiculous than most things people say here.

Please clarify the Parkinson's statement.

I love tea if that makes any difference. Coffee is one of the few things I find I cannot stand.

Well my wife should be quite safe from Parkinson's, given the amount of coffee she sucks down daily!

I'm all for it. I can't wait until the whole world has one company, one government, one religion, one everything.

Canned coffee drinks, hot and cold, have been sold for years in Japan. Some of it is actually quite good, much better than the stuff made fresh at Starbucks.
