“The Night of 1000 Dinners” is a four-year old program that is one of the major fundraising vehicles for the United Nations’ Adopt-a-Landmine, which clears landmines principally from Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Cambodia, Croatia, Vietnam, Colombia, and Mozambique.
This year’s inaugural New York gala benefit will be held at the United Nations on Tuesday, April 4th, 2006 (International Day for Mine Awareness), and feature some New York City’s most renowned chefs including François Payard of Payard, Cyril Renaud of Fleur-de-Sel, Wayne Nish of March, Anita Lo of Annissa, and Dante Bocuzzi of Aureole. Each of the savory chefs has a Michelen star, and excellent wines from The Eyrie Vineyards, Corey Creek Vineyards, Bodega Norton, and Sandeman are paired with each course. Individual tickets begin at $500, and tables for ten at $7,500; to purchase, please call 212-907-1391. Secretary-General Kofi Annan will attend to be honored; the event is chaired by Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones; and the benefit committee includes Wynton Marsalis, Sarah Jessica Parker, and George Soros, among other luminaries.
The accompanying silent auction includes lots such as “Winemaker for a Day at The Eyrie Vineyards” and “Chocolate Maker for a Day at Scharffen Berger Chocolate Maker”; please visit https://www.charityfolks.com/cfauctions ... %20Dinners to bid.
In addition, individuals are encouraged to support the cause by hosting “mini fundraising” dinners of their own, to which guests bring a modest cash donation in place of a bottle of wine or hostess gift; for details, please visit http://www.1000dinners.com/ for complete information on and a tool kit to support hosting a dinner.
