Yes, but it would still have much more flavor than the industrial stuff in plastic tubs that we can get here. I have a really good dish that features ricotta, but haven't made it since I got here because... well... it would be tasteless.

BTW, we're moving even further up the hill at the end of the month. Bigger kitchen, too!

Yes! And no close neighbors, so I can turn 'em loose.

Stuart, you don't have to hate me anymore - you have your own baker inhouse now!

Mid-week baking at our house, I've been blabbing on about my sourdough journey here.

A new fruit we found at the markets on Friday - these are called "Pluots" (a plum/apricot cross). The boys love them!

The baking is covered but the ricotta is not. So I still hate you. Blessed are the cheesemakers, for they will be called SOBs.

I made the following cookies for my Purim gift baskets for my neighbors:

Hamantashen with peach, pecan-fig, and cranberry-orange fillings
Ba'abe (Iraqi date pastries)
Vanishing oatmeal cookies

All of the recipes are on my blog.

Michelle, the "Quacker Oatmeal" made me laugh! But why are they called vanishing oatmeal cookies?

I tried a new recipe today for Hungarian kifli, which I wrote about here. They went down a treat!

Celia your kipfli look delicious.

That is the name they used to be called on the recipe on the back of the Quaker oatmeal box. I am not sure if they still call them that. I guess it is because they are so good, they vanish from the cookie jar.

June taught me to make a new type of kifli today - this one has a wickedly good sour cream pastry!

There is also a version that is made with a yeast dough with a walnut filling. I also have a recipe for some with pumpkin seeds.

Cynthia, they...look...WONDERFUL!!

Michelle, thank you, apparently a lot of Hungarian cooking uses walnuts, but my son is allergic to them..

A new bread I'm playing with - it has a mix of nine different grains, mixed spice, raisins, cranberries in a sourdough loaf.

I could eat that! Bet it would make spectacular French toast.

And I'd send some to you, but doubt it would make it through customs. If you wanted to reverse engineer the grain mix, here are the grains in it: Kibble Wheat, Mung Bean, Maize, Rye, Triticale, Soya Beans, Linseed, Barley, White Sorghum.

DH thought we kinda had the same thing two nights in a row. Others should suffer so much.

First night, Homemade Pizza (top photo, before I put fresh basil on it--basil straight from my tiny little garden.. forgive the lighting...)
Second night, Barefoot Contessa's Goat Cheese Tomato Tart. (Second photo, pre-baking)

While I see his point, does it really warrant a complaint? We think not.
