I find truly HOT foods/drinks just make me wince (or simply burn my tongue) when I'm trying to just enjoy and taste the flavors and textures. It's why I can't drink coffees/hot chocolates when scalding hot. Warm is essential and ideal for me, but HOT gets to be a pain (literally)!

something about the cold makes the food into one whole unit. i can't say it any better. it's not a melding of flavors or anything like that. but because you get your food in a block, so to speak, it makes it more united. and, strangely enough, more understandable on the palate

For me, some pies that are baked and then allowed to cool to room temp are great. For instance a simple tomato pie or one I had a couple of nights ago at a local restaurant, prosciutto/roasted garlic/goat cheese/roasted red peppers and arugula.
