A pizza place selling bottles of Chianti 'to-go' at 3am in the US? You were a lucky man!

I don't like cold pizza from the fridge, but I do prefer room temp pizza over hot. Oh yes, and pizza for breakfast is the best. Now I want some pizza!! :D

I'm definitely with you on the "pizza is best at room temperature rather than HOT" concept. While cold pizza is definitely not my thing, I also don't prefer extremely hot pizza either. I always prefer it fresh and out of the oven but is at its most ideal moment in time when its been brought to the table but sits 5-10 minutes. In other words, I love "hot" pizza but prefer to first dive in when its cooled down to just warm status. Then its time to indulge... :)

I'm like that with virtually all foods though. I find truly HOT foods/drinks just make me wince (or simply burn my tongue) when I'm trying to just enjoy and taste the flavors and textures. It's why I can't drink coffees/hot chocolates when scalding hot. Warm is essential and ideal for me, but HOT gets to be a pain (literally)!

Jeff...me too! I feel that way about almost all foods.

i may be a mutant in this sort of thing as i also totally love cold fried chicken.

something about the cold makes the food into one whole unit. i can't say it any better. it's not a melding of flavors or anything like that. but because you get your food in a block, so to speak, it makes it more united. and, strangely enough, more understandable on the palate

Can I patent this idea?

Sorry, you're too late, pizza flavored ice cream has been around for years and understandably, with varying degrees of success!

I can relate to that too a tiny bit with cold fried chicken, more so than with cold pizza for some reason. Although I would still definitely always prefer it warm/tender if I can help it.

But I love fried chicken! It's one of those perfect old fashioned favorite meals of mine (with the mashed potatoes, coleslaw ensemble) that I could probably ramble on a couple more paragraphs about! But for the sake of everyone's sanity I will refrain... :)

There's one or two decent pizza joints here, but generally you're correct. Oklahoma knows as much about good pizza as good pulled pork - woefully little!

I admit that I didn't go back and read the entire thread, but is cold pizza refrigerator cold or room temperature cold? For me, some pies that are baked and then allowed to cool to room temp are great. For instance a simple tomato pie or one I had a couple of nights ago at a local restaurant, prosciutto/roasted garlic/goat cheese/roasted red peppers and arugula.

I, for one (that's how many I am) consider room temperature pizza "cold" pizza.

Being a bit of a pizza snob, I have to say that it depends on what sort of pizza one is serving cold. My favorite style of pizza, NY style, is so dependent on a good, bready crust with a firm, crisp exterior that is lost upon storage. It's OK after that, but not nearly as appealing. Back when I lived in SoCal, the pizza was so dismal to start with that it really wasn't hurt by storage or service cold. It was a fine breakfast food in college, but nowadays? Nein, danke. Of course, there's always theChristine Lavin song.

When starting the post, I was mainly asking about "cold pizza" in the sense that it is refrigerated after its first hour or so of initial freshness and the point where it becomes enjoyed by some as a "leftovers" food.

To me there is an enormous difference in cold/refrigerated pizza and just room temperature pizza. However, I'm assuming "room temperature" to mean that the pizza was still recently delivered out of the oven and it has just "cooled down" from being extremely hot. Indeed I prefer to first eat pizza at this specific temperature and moment. I view room temperature pizza as "still warm and fresh" but just not hot. On the other hand, I view "cold pizza" as eating pizza anytime after it has been refrigerated and no longer new/fresh anymore.

Of course, without getting too completely ridiculous about details, one could have COLD, un-fresh pizza and then let it sit to room temperature and see if that magically makes it taste any "better" or more new again (as opposed to re-warming it and changing its state too dramatically to the warm/soggy side of things). But regardless, I guess I just find pizza to be a "fresh-only" food to my taste. Much like I cant enjoy fries after their "warm life" is over, I just find once pizza sits too long (or is chilled), it just never comes back to what it was when born...
