I wondered at the time, in fact, if it wasn't made from some kind of instant (since we're on that subject) vs. real bean, hence my emphasis on freshness.


I suppose it could be, at least to some extent. I must admit I haven't tried every one of the premium coffees off the McDonalds menu. The one I typically get is the premium roast mocha and even the iced coffee at times (this past summer) and while they aren't my perfect definition of premium/espresso style coffee nor does it seem quite as heavy/pure as a true coffee house espresso, I still find it to taste fairly fresh and fulfilling (again, especially considering it's just a "fast food attempt" at real coffee/espresso and there is no easier option typically). And like anywhere pretty much, it's always subject to just random variation probably. I have had poor ones myself where you simply get a bad cup/shot or tastes un-fresh, more diluted etc. Maybe some of the ones (much like the food) are just "fresher" on average at some of the chains relative to others. So who knows...
