Ah, that explains things a little better. I like, though, that Emeril described Jeff's food as 'refined'. When I heard that, I thought this was just the word that you and I had been kind of groping about for.

Thanks for putting 'spoiler alert 'in the subject title.
This season of Top Chef has finally finished in NZ and at last I've been able to read this thread.

Sue, what did you think of the series? Was that the first season you watched?

We've had all the series. Thought this was okay - perhaps not the best series - although the guest judge Tony, introduced some acerbic Simon Cowell-like comments.
Unfortunately did not see the final as I was away and did not set the VCR properly. However watched the reunion show that aired here last Thursday night.
Like many of you, I did not predict the final three. Never ever thought at any time that Hosea would be the winner. Thought for a long time that Jamie would be in it - and was also surprised when Airane was kicked off so early.
My favourite of all the Top Chef winners so far is Hung and I also like the snobby sommelier Stephen - probably because for him it was not just the food but he also considered the wines that would match the dishes.
Cheers,
Sue

Sue, I look forward to any episode in which Tony's a judge. He manages to bottom-line things in a way that's both fun and spot-on--I remember when he described one contestant's efforts as "It's as if Julia Child and Charles Manson had a love child and he cooked for me", or something very similar to that. I howled.

But yeah re Hosea--he won by default. And in no small part because he was assisted by Richard Blaise.
