We still have my grandmother's old Sunbeam toaster as well. It's the kind in which you drop the bread in the slot and it slowly lowers it down, popping back up when it's done. The toaster works just fine, but it lives in the basement. We almost never eat toasted sliced bread, and use the toaster oven when we do. (If I'm toasting bread, it's usually going to be followed by melting cheese over the toasted bread.) Despite the fact that we don't use it, I haven't been able to get myself to give it away.

Mike, Paul's post had me trying to remember the brand of toaster my family had when I was a kid. You just solved that, it was a Sunbeam! Only a two-slicer, and it was given away when replaced with a four-slice monster that never worked as well.

My mid-20th-century toaster is a Toastmaster.
