At an upscale restaurant in downtown Buffalo, after dinner I ordered "a cup of coffee and a Cognac". It arrived with the Cognac mixed with the coffee. They replaced it, of course.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

Now that is a riot!

Carrie, it's one of those memories that have become part of the fabric of our marriage. Though over 20 years have passed sinced that evening, Bob and I can still make each other laugh by taking a taste of just-delivered cappucino and commenting "They forgot the booze!"

We have a lot of private jokes like that too, so I can almost hear you guys saying that and laughing each time. Nice. :)

No one has mentioned ordering a "flat white" (another UK or Aussie-ism that took a while to figure out).

Totally agree with Frank that Europeans just don't understand coffee-with-dessert. I will admit that I have simply resigned myself to having the espresso either before or after.
