I would argue that this is actually a perversion of sushi. Other than the arrangement of layers, it's no burger.

But I get your point. Btw, had to have THE burger at DB Moderne in Vancouver the one time we ate there. Wasn't the least bit impressed--too dry, very little flavor. I would have been much happier with a $2 cheeseburger from In n' Out.

Ach du lieber.....you want a real hamburger, hie thee to the nearest airport and get on a flight to Ben Gurion Airport in Israel. From there take a taxi to Dixie, a well known brasserie in Tel Aviv (open 24 hours daily) and go for the 350 gram burger. Believe me, this burger, was most surely one of the things that God promised the people of Moses.

The burger is made from the entrecote cut of Charolais beef (the cattle raised on the Golan Heights); the bun, with just enough crispness on the surface is freshly baked on the premises; the Romaine lettuce and tomato under the burger are as fresh as you could want; and, ordered medium-rare the combination is as full of flavor as one could ask. In my own case I ask for four slices of bacon on the burger and, if my mood is right, two slices of fine English Cheddar cheese (not melted thank you but added as the sandwich is put together). Oh yes...a bit of Dijon mustard, a side order of the best French fries that rate among the best in the known universe, and another order of deep fried tempura coated onion rings and you know that Rogov is in culinary paradise.

And not to forget, start your meal with Dixie's Cajun style chicken wings - wings that have justifiably earned world-wide renown even having been given awards in Japanese, Taiwanese, and Hugarian restaurant magazines as well as in my own columns.

My own de rigueur beverage to accompany my burger - draft Hoegaarden beer, invariably starting with one half liter that goes down rather quickly and then another to be consumed at leisure with my meal.

Believe me, worth the flight to Tel Aviv. Would I joke about things this serious?

"Rice burgers" have been around a while, at places like MOS Burger, a Japanese fast food chain. McDonalds in Taiwan has had them too. I've tried one of the MOS Burger offerings, which was OK but nothing special. I prefer their regular burgers.

As for the dish in question, I would give it a try if offered, but wouldn't go out of my way to buy it. The ingredients look good, separately, but I'm not a fan of mayonnaise with sashimi.

I'd say they should leave out the vegetables too. A few shiso leaves would be nice, though. :)

I would like to see what would happen if it started to move on someone's plate.

How on earth do they expect you to taste top-quality fish underneath all that? Oh, wait, maybe it's because the fish isn't top quality after all. See The Zen of Fish.

To be pedantic, Charolais beef is certainly not raised in the Golan Heights. Perhaps the same breed of cattle are.

Of course you are right....what I wrote was:
