Big bummer. Heal quickly. When I once had a really bad ankle sprain and could only hop on one foot, Shadow the Wondermutt kept buzzing around me and getting in my way, thinking I was playing a game with him.

On a slightly related note, David--with a broken wrist--won Hell's Kitchen last night. He cooked with only one arm for most of the episodes. I was rooting for him, and he came through.

The cooking answer: I made a baked ham last night and will be gnawing on it for a number of days. It's my wife's favorite meat, so I should be held in high esteem for a while.

Oh Ted. Not you. No, not you? I always thought you were so steady and loya...oh wait, you said ALGONQUIN, not Appalachian. Whew!

:)

But yuck. Sorry about the surgery--I was lucky and somehow avoided dislocating anything, so just spent seven weeks in a cast. Hope you heal as quickly and cleanly as can be expected.

You mean, you might not even need the music?

Found local Brussels sprouts, on the stalk, at the Farmers Market.
Carefully pared off enough for the two of us, split them down the middle and fried cut side down for about 6-8 minutes in butter and olive oil.
Added half a cup of beef stock, covered and simmered for ten minutes.
Fished out the sprouts to a warm serving dish, reduced the remaining broth, threw in a big clove of garlic, chopped, and a table spoon of flour. Whisked my heart out, threw in some more broth and then about a 1/4 cup of light cream.

** The beef stock and the light cream were what I had on hand.

Ate this with roast delicato squash and apples with rosemary.

I'm hoping.

Never fear! I was with She Who Must Be Obeyed at the time (she's even got a sweatshirt that says so ;-).

I had the surgery yesterday. They're saying another four weeks off my feet, two more in a walking cast, and then physiotherapy, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Oh, you poor thing. Do you live in a single story home? We did when I broke mine, and I was so glad about that. Rented a wheelchair so I was easily mobile--had crutches, but discovered them too hard to learn to use. Amused myself by getting a stopwatch and timing how many seconds it would take me to get from room A to room B.

Not that it's bad, but I'd rather be cooking something fresh.

Ted, I am sorry to hear of the broken ankle. No idea how that happened, but am sure it would make an interesting story. Get well soon.
