Jenise-
I have no idea what that means.

And finding the places most loved by middle America. But to identify the venues that satisfy the most discerning palates, be they dives or fine dining, no. Plotnicki's filling a void there.

You hit it right on the head. He does know good food. :)

Been hitting the dim sum again these past few weeks. Also had a couple of phenomenally good dim sum lunches at Din Tai Fung and Maxim's in Hong Kong last week where there was a more varied selection than in Singapore, but not much difference in terms of quality.

Actually remembered to bring the camera with me for lunch today at the Crystal Jade in Singapore, stayed with the usual favourites and had a fantastic meal.

The yellow buns in the two baskets at the top of the picture are sweet corn dumplings - steamed yellow buns filled with a slightly sweet custard of sweet corn (and I think a little egg), absolutely addictive. Rather than experimenting much we just ordered a few baskets of those and the steamed buns with honey glazed pork.

Not being a seafood eater I skipped the har gau (shrimp dumpling), though they did look beautiful:

(Apologies for the double post, but for some reason the images wouldn't go through in one...)

Other highlights were the vegetable spring rolls they brought as starters - really crunchy and delicious with the chilli oil on the side.

Xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings Shanghai style) were fantastic as always.

Image
Shredded pork, carrot, bok choy and scallions in these dumplings - nice, though the buns were a little on the thick/sticky side.

And we finished with baked egg custard tarts for dessert, very good, quite sweet though heavy enough (with a quite buttery pastry) that only one of these was enough for me.

Thanks for posting the photos Salil. I was just at Crystal Jade last week and loved it. Only been back in the U.S. a few days and already trying to figure out how to get back to Singapore soon to eat more stingray sambal, chili crab, laksa, roti prata, cha kway teow and chicken rice :)
