While I started out choosing to eat certain foods because I found they tasted better, I found myself quickly entering the "we should respect the food we eat and the animals that sustain us" camp. I eat less meat and poultry these days because I spend more to eat the same from small farms, etc. I like to buy fish from the markets where the fishermen have sold them to the fishmonger. I believe the animals we live should at least live a natural life. (Happy is too odd a word for me to assign to an animal...but...contented at least. Not confined. Not fed crap...)

That said? I am firmly in the dead is dead camp. I don't think we should waste what we've got, but tossing the fish is not wasting it. Dropping it is, but..hmm. Tuna salad?

PETA needs to leave.

Pet food!

So do dead fish really "go with the flow"?

As host of the Olympics, China gets to select an event to be added to the competition. Rumor has it that Cat Throwing will be one of the Field events.
Cheers!

I believe that once dead, the creature should be handled in a manner leading to the best quality of the end product. In the case of many animals the method of slaughter should also be determined by the same.

I both hunt and fish. I never kill unless I am going to eat the animal or it is a pest. Personally I would never go fishing with the goal being solely to catch and release. I do think that is cruel and pointless. If I catch something legal size I keep it and consume it.

If you were Walleye fishing and you accidentally caught a Carp, you would keep and eat the Carp?

That's probably the same rule as for taunting Democrats - a catch and release sport!

Carp here is considered a rough fish. I don't believe it is legal in Minnesota to return carp to the water. In fact, I wouldn't recommend eating smoked carp unless you know the body of water from which it was obtained. The commercial fisherman 'harvest" them from the Mississippi river. IMHO large carp have just filtered too much "stuff' from the river bottom to be really "safe".

In all my years fishing I never caught a carp while walleye fishing. I would use different bait and presentation to catch carp.

Speaking of unborn fetuses. I remember in Uruguay many years ago hearing about a great delicacy, unborn calf.
