I have a friend who planted one recently, and so far it looks good. Pretty interesting concept, I think, but the packaging's kind of ugly. The 'pot' is a print in two shades of green meant to look like tomato foliage. Snob that I am, I would prefer a basic beige or natural burlap look. :)

I agree with you on the packaging, it is awful. I have seen them when we've been on RV trips, and staying in RV Parks. People have them hanging from their RV in the sunshine. They usually look great and I've seen lots of tomatoes. Many of those full-timers do all sorts of things to make their rolling home feel like a fixed home. Some put up little white fences, have huge potted plants and statuary. I don't know how they move around in their RV when all that stuff goes inside.
One year, I bought a Japanese Maple Tree in Oregon, plus other plants for our rock garden. We were able to fit all of it in the shower on the way home.

Karen how do you like RVing? We just joined the ranks. Got one to drive back and fourth between West and East coasts. I think we'll really like it (and know the dogs will like it). How often do you use yours?
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

Water is getting expensive

Karen, is water in California on a completely user-pays system? I mean, do you pay for every drop you use? Or do you have an allocation, and then pay for what you use over and above that?

Matilda, I can only speak for where we live...water was only 8.00 a month when we moved into this area 30 years ago. Now we pay for what we use. since we have 1/2 acre that is fully landscaped, our bill can get up to 200.00 a month is the dead of summer. Winter is is almost nothing. Each city or county has it's rate, depending on where they get their water. Redding is a full service city and provides us with all the services, and even though we have a lot of water here, it is getting expensive. We are cutting down on watering and see our yard suffering. It may be time to redo, take out, etc. Gene and I are both gardeners and love growing, it will be a hard adjustment, but a necessary one.

We've had RV's on and off for many years. We are not good travelers and prefer to be at home. However, we have done most of the western states, traveled east as far as Ohio, two trips into Canada, all over the Pacific Northwest, and now take short respites when the urge suits us. It is a great way to travel, especially if you love being away . We have taken 3 week trips, and now prefer shorter ones. Most people we know strive to use theirs once a month, but they are retired. We also have friends who go on three month and longer trips - those are not for us. It is a very custom thing...enjoy it and see what evolves.
Our pup loves taking off and sitting on the dash on his pillow when we travel.....but he loves getting back to his home and bed. I do know that we prefer it over motels...everything we need or want is on our RV when we leave. And if we forget something, a store is always nearby.

David,

Same situation here. My neighbor gave me a bottle of synthetic "coyote pee" that he said works wonders. I sprayed it around my garden and the rabbits will not go anywhere near it. My only advice would be if that you are going to use it, be certain you are not down wind. I got some on my pants and thus had to throw away a perfectly good pair of jeans.

It will wash out, y'know. We hunters don't throw out every item of clothing that kind of stuff gets on.
