Although I've spoken with Cynthia on the phone, and even though Bill Buitenhuys lives about 30 miles away on the other side of Phoenix, Randy is the first member I've met in person. I was glad to have met him and enjoyed our brief conversation. I would like to meet others on this forum, although I would not want to see Stuart naked.

I have met Thomas, Robin, and Howie mano y mono (and someone is going to say: what am I horse manure?), and have gotton along fine with them, I think. The advantage of having met them on forums in advance, is that you know what to bring up or not, and just concentrate on food and wine. I don't think this is playing people, but just being a responsible human being.

I think that's just part of the package. One just has to be careful to keep it casual. Look what happened to Cynthia. :)

I've met a number of people in person from two wine fora (is that the plural of forum?) Offlines in DC/Baltimore area and NYC and Buellton, CA and in Raleigh and Fayetteville here in North Carolina. Also been to three Mo'Cools. Great people that seem able to bridge gender and age gaps, economic and political differences through their appreciation of wine and/or food. Carl, am I in your horse manure category? Just teasing. Planning another offline in Baltimore the latter half of April.

Is that during soft shell crab season? All most worth flying back there for them and some other types of Atlantic seafood. :)

A couple of years ago I ran across an old friend who mentioned a great weekend party we had both attended in San Francisco around 68 or 69. Hell I lived LA area at that time and can't even remember being SF at all in that period.

I'm sure we met many times during that era. But,we're going to have to rely on some third party to verify that.

Lou,
I'm no expert on the seasons of the blue crab but one online source says they start shedding the shell with the first full moon of May so we may be a little ahead of the softshell crab season. We usually meet at a Greek restaurant in Baltimore that doesn't have a liquor license and charges $2.00 per person corkage! You can also get copious servings of about eight or nine different Greek dishes (Tour of Samos) for about $22.50. (It was $18.95 the first time I went there two or three years ago.)

Very sorry Jane. I knew I would miss somebody. Probably should never have started the post!

I usually get soft shells here in Cincinnati about the same time I get Copper River salmon, which is to say they first show up at the fishmonger around mid-May.
Cheers!

To the best of my knowledge (a little shaky sometimes) I haven't met most of the reprobates who frequent this joint. Just Robin and one other.

But I think the eye patch lends you a certain swashbuckling air.

What eye patch? You must have confused me with someone else.
