We aren't talking about stickin' your fries in Kraft white death, but fresh home made mayo, made with Dijon so that it has a light golden hue, kissed with the scent of garlic, ready to anoint your fry and raise it to the heights of culinary bliss!

I so totally don't get this.

It's a Belgian thing. Get yourself formed by the romance of it by eating frites in Bruxelles in your youth, and you'll never lose it.

I've never seen Stuart eat mayo, nor express a desire to do so. Which is a good thing because that might be a deal breaker! :o

So is this just a mayo aversion, or does it extend to other smooth sauces? Can we fool your inner censor by adding food colouring, or.....

The last time I had Bennies with eggs, Bill, was in the '70s, and it's not an experience I'm likely to repeat any time soon

Mayonnaise is the closest culinary equivalent to pus.

Here in the US, I restrict myself to salt, but if there's home-made chile colorado or excellent green chile, I'll happily avail myself. In Holland, they have a sauce called "sate" which is hot, red, and wonderful.

Sometimes ketchup, but I voted 'other' because sometimes I dip them in A-1 sauce, and other times in Louisiana Hot Sauce. Depends on the mood.

And put me in the "never eat mayo if I am forwarned" camp. Except in cole slaw and deviled eggs. Can't stand it when it's identifiable, and never, ever serve me a sandwich with mayo on it!

And here I thought you were open minded and adventurous!

FWIW, I never eat mayonnaise when it is served in casual/low-end eateries and I never have it on sandwiches or salads, etc.

But I love aioli! Eggs and oil. Nothing wrong with that.

Cool, Carrie - where?

Only place I've seen duck fat fries in the US is at Hot Doug's in Chicago (where I'll just eat them plain with salt - or dip the odd one into whatever crazy sauce the 'hot dog' was being served with.

Arcadia Steak House in downtown San Jose. We were there on business this week. Unfortunately, I couldn't talk Len into sharing an order with me. The idea actually repulsed him. :(

Shocking.

Should have just ordered still and eaten them yourself. (At worst, he'd have eventually succumbed. Duck fat fries are amazing!)

I said "nothing but salt", but I lied.

I usually like nothing but salt on my fries...really fine grain, powdery sea salt...but as long as it's a fried potato I'll eat it.

Sometimes like black pepper too.

Only very occasionally do I eat catsup on fries, as most of those are just too sweet.

Even less occasionally, mayo, but when in Belgium. Aioli, now, that can be great.

Taught my wife to eat fries with Dijon mustard...she'd never had it before, but tried it with me once. Now she always ask for Dijon and is indignant when she can't get it with her fries.

Garlic fries???? YEA, BABY!!!

Never saw the great attraction for smothering fries with that orangy cheese-ish stuff. Nor chili, really. Although when I can get patatas fritas with cheese and jalapenos, I don't say no senor.

Hey: I'm Irish. And we're talking spuds here. D'oh.

Oh, forgot, so I'll add it here: I know it's wrong, but one of my secret sins is...(gulp)....I like dousing fries with Lowry's Seasoning Salt. I know, I know.... But it's good to be bad sometimes. Just ask Stuart.

Just thought of something that I should have added to my first post...I go to lunch with a group of girls almost every week in the desert and they all are hooked on dipping their fries in Ranch dressing. They ask for it no matter where we go. The request gets a lot of raised eyebrows from servers.

When I say chile cheese fries, I mean fries topped with either red or green chile sauce (like in New Mexico!) and a mixture of sharp cheddar and jack. Popped under the broiler to get all crispy again.

I wouldn't put Texas chili on fries. Or American cheese.

I always regret it after I've eaten chips. They don't like me.
But: salt and malt vinegar helps them to go down.

New Mexican. Big difference.

Not nearly as gloppy as poutine and much more savory. I tried these on one of my visits to Santa Fe and have to admit it was edible.

Even as a child I liked fries with mustard, preferring brown mustard to yellow. Everyone, including my parents thought I was weird. Its nice to see that a few others like mustard with fries. I have also liked fries with vinegar. Never cared for ketchup or mayonnaise, which is why I stopped eating burgers at the major fast food chains along time ago. Ketchup I can understand but I never got the mayonnaise on your hamburger. Now, living in Japan it is even more bizzare. I see mayonnaise on all sorts of things inluding pizza????

OK, I like mayonnaise but that's just wrong.
