True, but you can't discount the Al Qaeda types either. After 9/11 in which one of the targets was the White House itself, which occurred since Bush's inauguration, I'm sure the complications and cost of protecting any incoming president are up considerably.

Tony, wasn't jumping all over you, and I apologize if it came off that way. Just wondered why what you said didn't square with what I'd just read.

Al Qaeda has killed tens of thousands worldwide, continues to do so daily, and has the sympathies of millions. The so-called right wing nuts are a couple dozen pitiful and ineffectual goofballs hiding in the hills of, uhhh, Montana, and have the support of about no-one. A fringe character blew up a building about 15 years ago and there's been nothing since.

I'm sorry, guys, I love you all dearly, but this whole man-crush human shield thing is just creepy to me. I would have been thrilled if (say) John McWhorter had been elected president, but I can't imagine myself in tears or spending my life savings "to breathe the same air" or throwing an inaugural party to commemorate "the event of a lifetime." Call me a cynic, because I am.

For sure, Jenise! All I'm saying is that the Bigot Factor ups the ante for security costs.
