One in the last house, one in the current house.

Both work (ed) just fine.

What brand(s) did you buy?

The brands that Home Depot had when we went in to buy one.

I'll have to check.

When we moved back into the family home, there were a few thinsg that She-who-must-be-obeyed wanted. I put my foot down on the silliest ones, or the ones that I could see would get in the way, but she was right about two of them (don't tell her I said so).

She wanted me to0 remove a closet used for brooms in the kitchen and replace it with a small counter - which we now use as a place for the coffee machines with a microwave built in above it. I gave in gracefully.

She also wanted a hot spot hot water dispenser, which I thought we'd never need, but as I got what I really wanted (a new stove, gas not electric) I once again acceded to her demand and am now glad that I did.

There are times when I feel like a fast cup of soup (I sometimes use the soup cubes that have too much salt in them, but otherwise the resulting broth is nice and light) or she feels like a cup of tea and we don't want to heat water on the stove or use the microwave, the hot spot is perfect and does a great job. We have it set towrd, or at the top of the heat range as that is needed for either preparation.

I'd say go for it - the tap can be off to the side where it won't get in the way, and the thing does come in useful.

I'm convinced--I'll get one!

What I will continue to resist (both Bob and the architect are driving me nuts on this one) is a water tap at the stove. I'm going to for the first time in my life have the luxury of TWO sinks, and I see no need to have water at the stove, too.

I'm trying to imagine where that broom closet would have been--you have a pretty small kitchen. Is it on the east wall opposite the stove?

Good call, Jenise. We have one and I find it pretty much useless. Half the time I forget that it's there. Plus, you still have to carry the water back to the sink to dump it, so it's only saving you from having to carry a pot full of water half the time!
Hello. My name is Carrie, and I...I....still like oaked Chardonnay. (Please don't judge.)

Agree, stove taps are stupid.

Yup, actually west side across the walk-through from the stove, beside the fridge. Much more useful as a coffee and/or 'place to stick pots temporarily' area.

PS - she also wanted a pass-through in the wall to the dining room. I dug in my heels on that one!

The conversation with the architect went:

Me: And I would want that why?
Him: Because then you won't have to carry large pots of water from the sink!
Me: Invent one that will take the water back afterward, and we can talk.
Him: Oh.

He's such a doofus. Doesn't cook and has no idea what someone who does would want. Apparently he's never had a high end client who actually uses this stuff--or not.

Okay, now I know where it is. Good call on her part, you need every bit of counter space you have. And I agree about the pass-through--your dining room's close enough. Something that WOULD make your life easier is a dumbwaiter to the garden, though. :)
