Ok, I'm not as big a Scrabble nut as Alice - I don't do tournaments.

Unless you have a strong masochistic bent avoid her at the Scrabble table. Trust me - I know. :)

We both like popcorn and usually cook it on the stove in an all-clad pot, but our twenty-five year-old Stir-Crazy Popper still works too: no old maids at all either. We just prefer the slightly more roasted/toasted flavor we get on the stove top method. We're also evil; we pop our own corn and sneak it into the movies in Dawn's popcorn purse. It's a big 'un she bought for this one purpose.

I have the misfortune (or maybe good fortune ) to absolutely loathe popcorn!
Probably an absurd over-reaction, but even the smell makes me run for the exit.
So, my vote as other probably needs clarification.

Love, love, LOVE popcorn! If I get a jones, I'm off to the movies. At least once a week, hopefully twice. Never make it at home.

Knowing your vinuous proclivity, I presume you agree that popcorn and champagne are a great combo?

Loathe popcorn? And I already know you loathe cinnamon--why, that's unAmerican! Oh wait, you're NOT American. :)

Say, not to divert this thread, but those cinnamon samples I sent home with you--I presume the Vietnamese didn't win you over.

You should! Homemade is so much better. Like Jeff, I'll even admit to sneaking my own in.

Robert,

Have you ever played Math Scrabble? I would think that would be right up your alley.

Math Scrabble? Sounds heretical to me, but then I hate math. Don't really know why I turned into an accountant, except it's not physical labor and the work is steady.

Jenise,

That's funny. I've never tried champagne with popcorn. Shiver. Popcorn always called for a pale ale or cold soda. Wine with popcorn never entered my mind; but now, hmmmm, there's something new to try.

We have both the math scrabble and the 3-D scrabble (which is good fun).

I've always found champagne's fruit to pop a bit when contrasted with something a little salty. It was a friend in our Alaska days that made me aware of this by serving 82 Salon with home made potato chips (no flavors, god forbid no dips, just salt). When you break it down, this would have a lot to do with the classic pairing with caviar. Of course, the Salon created a magnificent impression all by itself but I have to say I agreed with him, it was mighty nice.

Confession: I spend a lot of time in hotel bars. Lots of popcorn and $2 Chardonnay leads to my evening meal.

There is one memorable wine and popcorn moment. Opening weekend of Borat, Tony and snuck a bottle of Peay Chard into the theater. Loved the combo. And, no, they don't make a butter bomb Chard.

OK, for a situation like that, I might go for some popcorn.

I love popcorn and pop it at least once a week. My method is to use coconut oil in a pot. Then I add three kernels on med. heat when they pop I then add the corn and pop with the lid ajar to let out the steam. Here are a few sites to order real popcorn:
