I watched it. I see a gorilla staring at a TV screen that looks like road and trees, a picture that doesn't change. Separately, they show a lot of pictures of Rachel Ray on a TV screen--but we never see the gorilla actually watching those. Sure the zoo didn't make this up just to attract visitors?

Animals can be attrated to all sorts of things, voices, movement, music, etc. My dog loves the music at this site. When he hears it, he comes into my computer room and lays down to listen, while I read the blogs, recipes and enjoy the great music.

Jenise, if you look closely, you can see the tv on a stand in among the shrubs or whatever that stuff is.

My cat, Fukui-san, has a particular favorite episode of Teletubbies. If he hears the music of that particular episode, he comes running and plants his face two inches from the screen.

Tinky-Winky is the purple creature in the photo just a couple posts above. He is one of the TeleTubbies, http://www.teletubbies.co.uk/en/default.asp, a children's show noted for its trippy quality.

The frisson of adult amusement here is because Jerry Falwell, in one of his trippier moments, accused the TeleTubbies of furthering The Gay Agenda by inculcating small children with gay ideas. His evidence was that Tinky-Winky is a man who carries a handbag. You know what that means.

Splitting hairs... This was published in Falwell's magazine without a byline, according to Wikipedia. My understanding is that such an item speaks for the publisher, in this case Falwell, regardless of who actually generated the copy.

We may have to ask Robin for an ITB opinion on this one.

(Not really, I actually have a physics final on Wednesday to take with weak algebra skills and a very tenuous grasp of the physics they have tried to teach me. We really should argue more, just not right now!)

Ah, it's the ages old animus that exists between the Japanese and the Koreans. Falwell's writer was just doing what his savior Sun Myung Moon wanted.

The College of Science requires two semesters (the U switched from quarters to semesters a few years ago) of physics to get a BS in biology, and the Physics Department offers an intensive program to get both out of the way in one summer. Two semesters of Physics between May 15 and July 31. Barely have time to finish the assigned homework, let alone do the extra problems!

Its a class full of pre-meds, many have already applied - they take this class after sending their applications so that they can be evaluated without the grade from this class, which many consider the most difficult they have to take. I'm told their acceptance letters frequently say "OK, you're in, provided you pass physics..."

Three hours of class plus a two hour TA help session, five days a week, and a midterm every Friday, One week went : Monday - Special Relativity, Tuesday - Resistors, Wednesday - Capacitors, Thursday - RC Circuits, Friday - exam.

I'm fortunate in that I have given up the concept of applying to graduate school and am not really competing with the rest of the class for a top grade.

I think I TA'd that course. Who's the prof?
