WTN: Yowslese!

2005 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Auslese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (12/15/2020)
Ten years ago I didn't care for this wine. It was too big for its britches - too much sugar, too much botrytis, too much of too much. Ten years later it's still a beast, but maybe I have come to appreciate it for that. It drinks like a small beerenauslese, so I treat it as a small beerenauslese. Honey, tropical fruit, oodles of richness - it's a 3 liter bottle of wine packed into a 750 ml. Not something I would drink every day, unless I wanted to bathe in its richness as I slowly slipped away into a Riesling coma, but when there's spicy Thai food on the table it can sure handle the heat!

I have a single bottle of 2006 Selbach-Oster Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese* I have been holding for a special occasion. It is full of crystals and a great fill. I love big Rieslings with big botrytis but great acidity. I will open it when I can gather with friends (hopefully this coming summer) at MoCool and share it with like wine lovers. May not be comparable to your Auslese.

Or it may be. 2006 is an excellent botrytis year.

It's certainly better than a Shiraz coma!
