WTN: Kicking the Massican Down the Road

2015 Massican Sauvignon Blanc - USA, California, Napa Valley (12/12/2020)
I am an avowed hater of Sauvignon Blanc. That said, I love the wines Dan Petroski makes at Massican. Overall I almost like this wine. It does not have the aggressive green notes that I despise in Sauvignon, but it’s still rather astringent on the palate. The fresh acidity, and depth of herbal flavor are very good. Interesting to drink, but still not quite my thing. I will stick with his Hyde Chardonnay which I love, as well as his outstanding white blends.

*this bottle was a gift from Dan, who thought he could win me over to the grape

Poor Dan, you're hard core. BUT, once upon a time like you I absolutely despised Sauv Blanc for the same reasons, and the more feral the better. No idea what changed but there's reason to hope.

I was referring to winemaker Dan Petroski, whose effort to convert went unrewarded.

Dan knew it was going to be a slim chance.
